Small brief, ground breaking project.
YouthAOD Learning Hub
This project came from the same guys behind The Centre For YouthAOD and was unlike anything I’d worked on before – the brief was, well brief… but the job itself was complex and exciting.
The team at The Centre selected us to develop their online learning platform. ‘The Youth AOD Learning Hub’ offers a number of free online courses for youth workers, improving their skills in diverse topics from ‘Building Motivation’ to ‘Family and Domestic Violence.’
I was handed almost full creative license, with a responsibility to deliver a platform that was easy-to-use and conducive to learning.
I conducted plenty of research before getting started, including an analysis of similar websites from the US and UK. We uncovered information about adult learning principals, discovering that people learn best when digesting small ‘chunks’ of information and that mobility was key.
Equipped with this, I developed a ‘countdown and percentage system’ which helps users track their progress. Knowing how far you’ve progressed in a course keeps learners motivated.
As part of this project, I also designed a logo, information icons and website interface, including copy messaging that alleviates user fears. To make the website live, I collaborated with the organisation’s developer, ensuring that all UI/UX principals were applied.
The result is a learning platform that works.
